![]() During four days in October (Niño's birth and death) and again in March (his saint's birthday), the small village of Espinazo swells with thousands of people who come to pay homage to Niño Fidencio and renew their faith and healing powers. They come from Mexico, California, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Idaho and Florida. The old materias, of Mexico and Texas still go back and forth across the border visiting misiones, sharing their traditional cures and bringing down the spirit of the Niño. The world changes all around them, but not so much here where history, culture, ritual and memory merge and the spiritual life looms over the material world. Not all curanderos who invoke the Niño Fidencio are fidencistas, however. In fact, the majority of them are not. El Niño Fidencio is considered by many Mexicans to be a saint, just like any other, and they pray to him, most often, for healing, referring to him as "a doctor". This is the purpose of this amulet - to help in the healing process for sickness and injury, and in order to prevent sickness and injury from occuring.
![]() The amulets that come with these images are properly blessed in the proper fashion, by a person who we believe has the power to accomplish this. This amulet has been "prepared", which is to say, it has been rendered effective and given power by a Mexican curandero, Carlos Cisneros, of Gomez Palacios, Durango, who used the curing method from the ancient grimorio La Clavícula del Rey Salomon. This involves a series of special prayers to the seven spirits of the seven days, plus setting the amulets out in the light of the waxing moon, and the use of both incense and special perfume. This package contains an image of Santa Elena de la Cruz, a properly prepared amulet, and the prayer in Spanish on the back of the image. Simply place a photo of the person on whom you wish to work the spell in front of the image, light a red candle, and pray the prayer daily, and carry the amulet with you at all times.
