The purpose of this dance, in large measure, is to show off the traditional Indian garment for women - the huipil - which are hand made and decorated lavishly, and reflect regional and tribal styles
The dancers carry pineapples, and at the end, they throw them out into the audience or hand them to people to take home with them.
